Mathis' project won't be a full-sized re-creation of the machine that turned young Josh Baskin into an adult. Instead, Mathis is hoping to make a 14-inch coin bank and music box.
Mathis turned to kickstarter due to the costs associated with 3D printing to crate a working model. So far, his campaign has raised over $2,000 of his intended goal of $7,500.
To date, Mathis has created a hand-made mock up of what the Zoltar bank will look like and had assorted parts created by a 3D printer in order to see how they will look and feel. He has also tested the mechanics of his mock up to make sure the lights and the music function properly in the final model.
Mathis has said the Zoltar project is just the beginning and he hopes to use the experience he gains from this campaign into other projects he has in mind.
